Boycott Extremist Turns on Suppliers; Calls them Traitors

When Shane Jones put on his invisibility cloak of Parliamentary Privilege and accused Countdown of extortion, bullying and blackmail, the public was led to believe that suppliers who delivered goods to Countdown were the victims.

But NO! The verdict is in – apparently they are disloyal to and stealing money from New Zealand!
That’s right – suppliers to Countdown are now the bad guys – along with anyone who works for or shops at the chain.
In fact, if you have anything to do with Countdown, you’re Disloyal. Anti Kiwi. A Dirty Traitor.
Shame! Shame! Shame!

Who is spouting this hysterical nonsense, you ask?
traitors edit wp

The same person who put up the details of Dave Chambers’ 2IC and encouraged people to harass her. Speaking of which, he’s at it again.
harass kate pt 2 edit

This was posted today. Note how he’s getting sneaky – Telling followers what to say and pretending to advocate a ‘peaceful’ approach rather than aggressive.
Unfortunately for him he spoils it all by acknowlgeding it’s a number for the media to use but encouraging people to abuse it anyway.

In Other News:

Jerrard Day is convinced that anyone who opposes or challenges the boycott and the anti Progressives/ anti Australian attitude expressed on the boycott page is a “shill”. He believes these people are paid by Progressives to spread “misinformation” and has made several posts about this. Even one of the regular posters on the page has called him paranoid.
So we’re not only Anti Kiwi, but we’re paid extortionate sums of money to pretend to support Progressives and its employees, suppliers and contractors because no one in their right mind would have that opinion of their own volition!

Here he admits that his alias (Scarlet Pimpernel) is his very own Privilege Hoodie. He changed his display name about two weeks ago.
fake name edit

Aren’t his theories hilarious (not to mention ironic)?
Demented ravings? Cult-like behaviour? I think he needs to take a look in the mirror and at some of his fellow extremist buddies.
Online Disinhibition Effect has a lot to answer for. You can read about this in a previous entry if you haven’t yet seen it.

Unfortunately for him, you can change your display name but not the one you registered under – the original remains displayed in the web address.

not so fake edit wp
So he can run, but he can’t hide – well, he can pretend to. Under that shiny invisibility cloak.

Why Pro – Boycotters Agressively Attack Countdown Employees and Their Supporters: The Psychology of Online Behaviour

Reading through some recent comments from pro-boycotters over the last couple of days I have been thinking quite a bit about the increasing trend of the “Online Disinhibition Effect.”

As I have mentioned previously people who support Countdown and its employees – and especially employees themselves – have been the repeated targets of attack from pro-boycotters.

You remember Jerrard from my previous post? Apparently he is now taking his ‘anti Kiwi’ theory to the next step – he claims he is collecting all of our “many anti Kiwi” statements and that he plans to publish them/send them to someone (Julian Assange perhaps, or the NZSIS? Maybe he plans to get all us traitors kicked over to Australia?).
While he works on that task, he continues to attack perceived errors in people’s use of the English language and contemptuously dismisses any argument as ‘ridiculous’. Perhaps it helps him focus and put his expose together? Who knows.
*UPDATE* He has since changed his name to The Scarlet Pimpernel. This is the name you’ll see when following any links referring to him. Unsure what motivated this change, but perhaps he wants to go incognito while he gathers his damning evidence?

Another particularly vicious contributor is a woman who going by her profile picture appears to be at least in her 50’s if not older. The disturbing thing about this woman’s personal attacks on people (and they are very personal, and very nasty) is that it is the type of behaviour you would expect from a teenage girl. Vindictive, cruel, deliberately looking for a fight. Rude, nasty and with no respect at all for anyone.
Certainly not the type of behaviour you would expect from a woman of her age. Or any adult in her age group, for that matter. Yet, there seem to be a few older folks on Boycott who display similar attitudes – although they can’t hold a candle to this particular woman. She’s right out of Mean Girls (The Reunion?).

Even the admin jumped on the “anti Kiwi” bandwagon.

If you’d like some examples of the above descriptions the thread makes interesting reading.

In regard to these personal attacks – even Foodstuffs employees aren’t safe.
One poster made the point that Foodstuffs has their own bad habits as does any large retail business. He was immediately set upon by a group of people and called disloyal, a traitor and told to leave. The admin accused him of ‘sending hate emails’.
Countdown workers who have posted in defense of themselves and their employer have continually suffered the same attacks.

So what about this Online Disinhibition Effect?

Linked is a study I found when looking for more information. It explains the reasoning behind the  attitudes and behaviours manifesting themselves regularly on the Boycott Countdown page.
Toxic Disinhibition, Disassociative Anonymity and Invisibility are particularly relevant to the situation we now find ourselves in.

It is fascinating, yet highly disturbing.
Sadly, this is what society is coming to as technological advances and the popularity of social media continue to expand.

No one and nothing is safe.
Who will the mob turn on once they’re finished tearing Countdown and its employees to shreds?

Facebook page advocating for Kiwi employees of Countdown is accused of being “anti Kiwi”… Oh, the irony.

A little-known page advocating for the support of Countdown employees (and the others who work for and with the chain) and which vocally opposes the hysteria and xenophobia portrayed on the Boycott Countdown facebook page has over the last 24 hours been subjected to a vitriolic tirade from one of the Boycott’s extremist supporters.

It started simply enough with a self-righteous jibe aimed at a missed typo. The post was deliberately condescending and arrogant, but also showed the poster could think of nothing better to say.
spelling wp edit
The article which was linked in the above discussion talked about how many people now use social media to vilify an individual or business and that we should expect this to continue. It also addressed the very real trend of how easily groups are being swept up an online attack without stopping to properly analyse or critique the whole issue before diving in – a case in point being the number of people who condemned Wille and JT’s infamous radio interview with ‘Amy’ despite not having heard the interview themselves.
Whether our grammar-and-spelling conscious friend understood this is unclear – he claims it made “several good points” but chose not to elaborate. You can read the article here.

On to the title of this entry.
A long and interesting discussion ensued so the post in its entirety is available here.
Let’s analyse some of my favourite phrases from our conscientious friend.

“You people..” In this sense it is a deliberately derogatory phrase – implying that those referred to are somehow inferior to the poster. This phrase has been used as a derogatory reference to minorities time and time again. It implies that as a minority they are less important, less intelligent and have less worth than those who look down on them.

“We’re not REALLY into American spellings..” does anybody else think of the South Park episode where the redneck guys tell everyone that “We don’t take kindly to your type round here..!” ?

And now for that bold anti Kiwi allegation you’ve been waiting for! If I could give it the level of fanfare the famous Shane Jones Letter of Condemning Doom got, I would.
Sorry to disappoint folks – here it is in plain, unadorned text.

“Also, you don’t suppose this page is just (dare I hint at it) slightly anti-Kiwi? Have you never heard of “Let’s Talk Strine” (i.e. Orstraaalian). This page reeks of it..”

Our patriotic friend ends with this loving sentiment… I mean Shane Jones-esque accusation:
accustion edit
There you have it, folks. An expert opinion from someone who is really in the know. Because everyone thinks like him.
I suspect he has patriotism confused with narcissism and  jingoism. That’s a lot of -isms!

Clearly, the idea that people really do care about 18,000+ employees and all the people working for and with Countdown is laughable and the page is just pretending to speak on their behalf with a voice of calm and reason. Its REAL purpose is to promote a dirty Australian and American love fest.
New Tui ad, anyone?

If you have yet to visit the Boycott the Bullies facebook page but would like to show your support for the people who work for and with Countdown and advocate an objective approach, head on over and join the discussion.
